I'm swimming to save lives

  • This is my first year diving

  • in for youth mental health

Did you know suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia?

That means that each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.

This March, I'm swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.

By sponsoring my challenge, you’ll be helping to prevent youth suicide.

All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.

2.1kms

Motivation improved so much today after meeting and swimming with 3 other laps for lifers. I've been out of the pool for a week after a minor procedure last Friday. It was great to be back in the pool and back to 100%... well as close as possible to 100% 😃🏊‍♀️

Met a laps for life legend today

I finally found another laps for life swimmer. Well actually Trish found me as she hasn't yet received her challenge cap but she saw mine. We have planned to swim together on Fridays to support one another. Trish is swimming 20kms and has already exceeded her fundraising goal! What a legend!

First swim of the challenge done and dusted

After being quite ill on the weekend, I started my 10km challenge today 3/3. I like the double number. It feels like a good starting point :) I completed a gentle 1km with a few short overtaking sprints. The pool was way too busy. Huge thank you to friends and work colleagues! You are all amazing. I'm so grateful for your support as I swim for youth mental health. So many (too many) young people face mental health challenges. My hope is that we can always access mental health support services at the right time every time.

Training times and heart rate stats

Yesterday's training session stretched out to 1.5kms from a planned 1km. I felt good after the first 1km, my heart rate looked good, recovery after sprints was good, so I pushed on. Planning to train 3 times a week for a minimum of 1km each session till 1 March when the actual event begins! Thank you for your support of this incredibly important cause - youth mental health!

1.5km in 1 hour

It's been many years since swimming distance but today I easily completed 1.5kms in just under 1 hour. I'm so pleased with the progress. feeling I might make my 10km goal now in March !
