Over the midday hump!
I have been away to a swimming carnival. I thought I swam well but with 360 swimmers the competition was fierce. this was all handicapped so we got to compete at our own pace. I was thinking about my own pace this morning when I was swimming, we all have our own pace and comparing ourselves to others just invites disappointment and negatives. when I swim with other people, they all fly past me, that is their pace, I have stamina that many of them don’t have. So we all have our own unique gifts and we should be celebrating them instead of comparing ourselves to others.
Tired muscles suck
well upping the laps to 2.5km a day is HARD! Day 2 adding extra laps and I know why I train so hard before March begins. The extra 500m leaves me absolutely exhausted. I am eating like a horse and am resembling the very hungry caterpillar lol All for a good cause so I will soldier on
The pool is open!
back at it today. 2.5kms this morning, I have had to increase my laps in an attempt to catch up. Last week I saw a nutritionist who suggested I eat before swimming so I tried it this morning, it held me up for about 60 laps then the hunger took over. All I could think about was Brekky lol. I made the 100 laps and am now very tired. I will soldier on though
Day 3 of the pool being closed
Fingers crossed it opens as planned tomorrow! we have now reached major flood level here but we are all used to this, hunkered down out of the wet with our evacuation plans done - not that we have ever had to leave but better to be safe than sorry. I can almost feel laziness taking over in my house, so today I made myself do “the stuff” My swimming bag is packed ready for the morning.
2 days of no swimming
well TC Alfred threw a massive spanner into my swim plans as the pools are closed. I have re-jigged what I have to swim each day to catch up. thank goodness I am on holidays from the 14th so I can catch up! Stay safe people and if you or your kids are struggling remember there is help out there xxoo
10percent there
so today I reached the 10% mark of my goal. I was thinking about my own mental health journey while I swam this morning. the lows, the highs the grind to drag myself from the forty’s of depression to at times only a just existing level of mental health. it has taken me years to be able to recognise the signs I am slipping and need help. to voice my feelings, to use the tools I have learnt well enough to not slide right back down. thinking about it, if these tools were there for me as a young woman, my journey would have been different. this is why I swim, to provide resources so young people have access to hopefully learn the vital tools to keep their mental health well. I am grateful for the tools every day now I have them instilled in me. I think the younger we learn these, the happier our lives will be. I hope this ramble made sense to someone!
I loooove our new pool
on the weekends I get to swim in our new 50m pool and it is glorious. water is cool (but not cold) and swimming without constantly turning every 25m is so much better!
We’re swimming to save lives
Did you know suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia?
That means that each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.
This March, we’re swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.
By sponsoring our challenge, you’ll be helping to prevent youth suicide.
All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.
Our Impact
So far this year we helped provide...

1044
Young people with vital mental health support.
Funds raised over the years
